Winter, as our guests see it

We love when guests share photos of their visit with us. It's always interesting to see another person's perspective of our own stomping grounds, to look at something we see every day from a slightly different angle or frame.

Here's a selection of photos from and of guests this winter. If you have some of your own to share, we invite you to email the photos, or a link to your flickr album or post them on our facebook page. See you on the other side of the camera!

Starring Fern Glen Inn!

See anyone you know in this video from Explorers' Edge? Fern Glen Inn was one of the properties featured in a series of winter videos for the region and Jim and I were some of the models, or as I like to think of us -- superstars.

That's us snowshoeing through knee-deep snow on our own trails and meadows. We had a blast with the videographer (Virginia Hastings of Starshine Video) and photographer (Scott Turnbull) but boy, were we glad we weren't the ones lugging their equipment through the deep snow!

There's a whole series of videos for the region and they do a great job showcasing just how amazing a winter getaway can be in Explorers' Edge. Their tag line is "Winter just turns up the fun" but we think it also turns up the romance, the adventure, the relaxation, the tranquility, the beauty... You'll just have to come see for yourself. But, please, no autographs. :)

Winter Packages for Exploring or Unwinding

Ski, skate and snowshoe trails at Arrowhead Provincial Park
Do you like to explore or unwind?

For some people, the perfect getaway is all about the get-up-and-go! They thrill to the adventure of seeing and doing as much as they can; it makes them feel exhilarated and alive. For others, the ideal getaway involves slowing down, stopping the clock, hiding out from the real world and taking time to relax and refocus.

We see both types of travellers here and that's why we offer winter packages to suit everyone. Both the Country Winter Getaway and the Muskoka Winter Wonderland packages include two nights accommodation, breakfast each morning, use of the property and guest facilities, and a gift package of gourmet hot chocolate and homemade biscotti.

On top of all that, the Muskoka Winter Wonderland includes a one-day Ontario Parks Pass for the adventurous to head out and explore the trails and activities in Arrowhead Park and Algonquin Park. With trails for hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and even ice skating; plus a tubing hill and Visitor Information Centre, all you high-energy explorers can keep going until the sun goes down.

On the other hand, the Country Winter Getaway includes dinner at the inn so urban escapees don't even have to leave the property until it's time to go home. You can still go snowshoeing right here on our own private trails on 120 acres, or tobogganing down our hill. But sometimes, sipping a favourite beverage in front of the fire in the guest lounge all afternoon is all you want or need.

Whichever style suits you, you can get more information on our winter packages here. You can also check availability and book online here. Or just send us an email or call us toll free with any questions. We'd be happy to help you plan your perfect winter getaway.
